SITUATION UPDATE The temporary ceasefire agreement in Gaza arrives after more than 465 days of relentless war. The toll of this brutal war includes the obliteration of homes, hospitals, and infrastructure, and the displacement of 1.9 million people who are heavily reliant on humanitarian aid and in desperate need of water, food, and shelter, especially in the cold winter. Even if it is a relief, it is only the beginning in addressing the immense humanitarian, psychological, and medical needs in Gaza. The provision of basic assistance to vulnerable people, mainly children, remains the priority for WeWorld after the ceasefire came into effect last Sunday. Israel military attack has killed over 47,000 people in Gaza and injured more than 111,000. An additional 10,000 bodies are estimated to be buried under destroyed buildings. It is also estimated that 70% of the victims are children and women. However, several reports show that the real tool is higher and the resulting figures are astonishing, especially considering the 2,3 million total population residing in the Strip. it is anticipated that about half million IDPs will attempt to move from the south to the north to return to their homes, or to what is left of their homes. According to last analysis based on satellite data, the vast majority of Gaza Strip has been damaged or destroyed, including 60% of buildings, 92% of homes, 88% of schools, 68% of cropland, 68% of road networks, while only 50% of hospitals are partially functioning. OUR INTERVENTION AND PLANNED RESPONSE Since the start of the war in October 2023, WeWorld has reached 974,396 persons: 302,063 girls 282,575 boys 204,623 women 185,135 men WeWorld, in coordination with humanitarian clusters, is closely monitoring population movements to assess urgent needs and the reliability of supply chains of humanitarian aid. The organization plans to significantly scale up its operational capacity in northern Gaza by opening a field office and establishing a warehouse to facilitate the large-scale distribution of aid. Depending on the evolving scenarios, WeWorld s response will prioritize the following interventions: WASH: provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene services in health facilities and schools. Food Assistance: support through cash transfers and delivery of food parcels Shelter: shelter construction and rehabilitation to meet urgent housing needs. Education: provision of Education and psycho-social support to children and distribution of educational emergency supplies and learning kits. Protection: Set up of child-friendly spaces, and provision of MHPSS.
